Parque Plaza Sesamo is as you would suspect a park themed around the characters of Sesame Street. Firstly Big Bird in Mexico is red and green, not yellow. Further research (because you have to spend some time getting this right) revealed that it's not Big Bird at all. This is Abelardo, apparently a cousin of the yellow character that we all know.
The first thing that strikes you getting into the park is how amazing it all looks with a brightly coloured castle beside a small lake acting as the centrepiece.
Abelardo (I'm going to keep saying it now I know it) is clearly the main character here but must have done something to upset Jabba the Hutt to have ended up in this carbonite state.
Duck rides instantly remind me of this classic clip from a few years ago.
It still makes me laugh.
Had I been more attentive when visiting the park I might have twigged the characters name earlier. The clues were there.
Around the exterior of the park were a number of various sized halls, most of them empty. I think groups would book them to house their parties.
Bizarre little mudskipper type muppets.
The first coaster was a small zierer type ride called CatariƱos, which seems to have no translation. All searches for this bring back this ride. It was OK.
More of those little mudskipper things. I've no idea what the blue one is up to. I tried to get an angle that made it look like he was going for a piss, but it ended up looking like he was enamoured by the rock nearby.
We liked the look of this, well themed and probably the only saddle and hat drop ride in the world. Unfortunately it wasn't open today, it would have made for a great photo even if we were too big to ride.
There's a water park adjacent to the amusement park and the lazy river wasn't being used, instead it served to carry cold drinks around the park like a slow waiter.
The second coaster is a powered mine train ride which makes great use of the hill offering some nice views of Monterey and it was being run at quite a speed too. Aside from the travelling Dragons we think this was the only powered coaster on the trip so far. The ratio to gravity vs powered is very right here in Mexico it would seem.
The park was pretty quiet today with a lot of rides just sitting waiting for the small number riding to come over. Operations were pretty good overall.
Using burst mode on the camera I was able to get a picture of Tal before and during the shot tower's launch. Sorry Tal!
The booster was the most popular ride, well it had the longest queue, probably because it has the lowest throughput. Lovely backdrop though, and I though it was a shame they didn't have the ride facing the other way before realising it the seats were back-to-back and there were people being offered the view. D'Oh!
and that was Parque Sesamo. It's quite a large park but not full of rides due to the amount of party rooms around the outside. Some of those halls could be converted into themed dark rides I'm sure.
With the two main Monterey Parks done it was time to visit a fair.
